Barbados Weather
Barbados boasts a classic tropical climate, making it an appealing destination all year round. With lush landscapes, sparkling seas and mild temperatures, the island’s predictable warmth and sunshine are a big part of its allure. However, there are distinct seasons and subtle changes throughout the year to keep in mind if you’re planning your holiday.
The Two Main Seasons
- Dry Season (December to May):
This is the sunniest, driest and least humid time of the year. Skies are generally clear, humidity is lower, and rainfall is minimal—making these prime months for beach days, sightseeing, and water sports. Daytime temperatures usually hover between 27°C and 30°C. - Wet Season (June to November):
June marks the start of the wet (or “green”) season. Humidity is higher, and rain comes most often in short, heavy bursts followed by sunshine. Temperatures remain warm, with highs around 30–31°C. While this period coincides with hurricane season in the Caribbean, storms rarely make direct landfall in Barbados, and rainy spells are often interspersed with long sunny periods.
Best Time to Visit Barbados
The most popular period for a holiday in Barbados is between mid-December and April during the dry season, when visitors enjoy plenty of sunshine, minimal rain, and pleasant breezes. These months are perfect for those escaping winter in Europe or North America.
May and November are considered shoulder months—offering decent weather, fewer crowds, and sometimes better value.
June through October/November is the “off-peak” or low season. While you might experience short tropical downpours, this is an ideal time for budget travellers or those preferring a more laid-back atmosphere and vibrant local culture (including the lively Crop Over Festival).

January
- Weather: Coolest month, but still pleasantly warm (daytime highs around 28–29°C). Nights are comfortable.
- Rain: Minimal; one of the driest months.
- Highlights: Peak of the dry season, excellent for beach holidays and exploring gardens and countryside.
February
- Weather: Dry, sunny and warm (28–29°C).
- Rain: Lowest rainfall—almost no wet days.
- Highlights: Ideal for outdoor activities, the sea is calm, perfect for snorkelling and diving.
March
- Weather: Beginning to warm up (29–30°C).
- Rain: Remains low, long days of sunshine.
- Highlights: Great time for a spring escape; humidity begins to increase towards the month’s end.
April
- Weather: Still dry and warm (30°C), humidity starts to climb slightly.
- Rain: Low, but gradually increasing.
- Highlights: End of the high season, so things start to get quieter, but the weather remains excellent.
May
- Weather: Warm and humid (30–31°C), especially later in the month.
- Rain: Moderate increase; showers become more frequent.
- Highlights: Shoulder season—good travel deals, plus start of sea turtle nesting season.
June
- Weather: Hot, humid (31°C), and breezy.
- Rain: Marked rise in rainfall and humidity; heaviest after mid-month.
- Highlights: First month of the wet season, also the start of Crop Over Festival celebrations.
July
- Weather: Hot (30–31°C), humid, with noticeable breezes.
- Rain: Showers often in short bursts, rarely all-day washouts.
- Highlights: Wet season in full swing, but there’s still plenty of sunshine and local festivities.
August
- Weather: Hot and humid.
- Rain: Frequent heavy showers, but still long stretches of sun.
- Highlights: Grand Kadooment Day, the pinnacle of Crop Over Festival; vibrant, lively island atmosphere.
September
- Weather: High heat (31°C), very humid.
- Rain: Some of the heaviest rain of the year (wettest month).
- Highlights: Fewer tourists, so ideal for a quieter holiday if you don’t mind the rain.
October
- Weather: Remains hot and humid.
- Rain: Still significant rainfall, generally heavier early in the month, easing off by the end.
- Highlights: Rain often falls in the evenings; days can be quite sunny.
November
- Weather: Warmth and humidity persist (30°C).
- Rain: Rainfall decreases towards the end of the month as dry season nears.
- Highlights: Transition month—beaches are quieter, and rates are lower.
December
- Weather: Transition into dry season; warmth with less humidity (28°C).
- Rain: Rain significantly drops off, especially mid–late month.
- Highlights: Start of “high” season, festive atmosphere, and excellent beach conditions.
Other Weather Tips
- Sea temperature: Always warm, ranging from 26°C in winter to 29°C in summer—excellent for swimming year-round.
- Hurricanes: Possible June–November, but direct hits on Barbados are rare. Most showers are brief and followed by sunshine.

Barbados is blessed with warm weather, refreshing trade winds, and plenty of sunshine throughout the year, but January to April offers the most consistent conditions for a classic Caribbean escape.
